in the studio with christine gray

I'm so excited to share this next visit with you, which took us to the wonderful studio of Christine Gray. Gray is a VA-based artist and professor at VCU. Interested in both domestic and institutional collections, Gray explores the ways in which people acquire and display precious (and banal) objects. In addition to being intelligent and articulate, Gray is a technical master with the brush, her canvases often walking the line between photo-realism and abstract optical illusion. I especially enjoyed hearing about where she finds her source materials and which aspects of her compositions are invented.  Visit Christine's website here and stay tuned for more news regarding her work in the coming months!
