Last week, Margaret and I made a quick road trip down to Richmond for a few fun appointments, including a studio visit with Sharon Shapiro. Shapiro, who recently began working in Richmond (originally from Charlottesville, VA), works in a variety of media, often culling imagery from vintage pin-up magazines, old film stills, and family photographs. Interested in the dualities inherent in everyday life, her work often displays a visual hybrid of opposing forces; feminine // masculine, human // animal, manufactured // organic, etc...
